Currently, no events are specifically dedicated to maritime apprenticeships listed on the National Apprenticeship website. Despite this, prospective candidates interested in the maritime sector should not be discouraged.
The maritime industry offers a wide and growing range of apprenticeships, catering to various aspects of the sector. These apprenticeships are not just for school leavers but also for those who might be considering a career change or looking to gain additional skills later in their careers.
Furthermore, prominent companies in the maritime industry are actively investing in apprenticeship programmes. For example, Harland & Wolff’s apprenticeship scheme, launched in 2021, has seen over 150 participants and is looking to increase this number significantly in 2024.
In addition, the list of maritime apprenticeships is constantly expanding, reflecting the sector’s dynamic nature and its commitment to developing a skilled workforce. Apprenticeships are available for roles ranging from crew on shipping vessels to engineering and technical roles in ports and shipyards.
Therefore, despite the low visibility of maritime industry-specific events during National Apprenticeship Week, the sector remains a significant provider of apprenticeship opportunities, offering diverse and rewarding career paths for individuals interested in this field
UK Chamber of Shipping Celebrating Maritime Apprentice
As part of the National Apprenticeship Week celebrations, the UK Chamber of Shipping is keen to showcase the positive impact of apprenticeships in the maritime sector. They invite individuals who have completed an apprenticeship in the industry to share their stories, providing insights into the benefits and opportunities these programmes offer.
