Trinity House and Hill Robinson Launch a Unique Pathway for Future Superyacht Officers

New Partnership Fuels Opportunities for Maritime Training in the UK

To bolster maritime training in the UK, renowned maritime organisations Trinity House and Hill Robinson have announced a unique partnership. Aiming to foster the upcoming generation of superyacht officers, the collaborative scheme forms part of Trinity House’s well-regarded Merchant Navy Scholarship Scheme, extending sponsorship opportunities to aspiring officers.

Joint Venture Creates Comprehensive Cadet Training Pathway

The partnership will see both Trinity House and Hill Robinson sponsor four cadets to undergo a three-year officer cadetship; at the end, they will receive a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) certification as a Deck or Marine Engineer Officer of the Watch (Unlimited). This arrangement will offer an unrivalled entry point for young people interested in a career in the fast-growing superyacht industry.

The initiative has garnered support from Just Be Maritime, who will manage the cadets, and Warsash Maritime School, which will provide the training. Hill Robinson will be actively involved in the cadet recruitment and selection process, and successful candidates might find themselves with the opportunity to be employed on a Hill Robinson-managed yacht as they advance in their careers.

Investing in the Future of the Superyacht Industry

Commenting on the joint venture, Paul Cook, the Chief Operating Officer of the Hill Robinson Group, highlighted the critical role that crew members play in maintaining high operational and technical standards onboard their yachts. He added that the partnership with Trinity House will allow Hill Robinson to bring new talents into the superyacht industry and help them achieve their career aspirations. “Investing in young people is very near to our hearts, and we are thrilled at the prospect of giving these young cadets their first step into the superyacht industry,” he stated.

Captain Nigel Hope, Trinity House’s Director of Maritime Training, said, “This novel joint venture with Hill Robinson to co-fund training for Merchant Navy Cadets on superyachts significantly enriches our Merchant Navy Scholarship Scheme.” He expressed his appreciation for the commitment to a high standard of superyacht training and the support for cadets from diverse backgrounds who could benefit from financial and professional backing.

The partnership has been widely hailed as a significant step forward in strengthening the UK’s position as a frontrunner in superyacht officer training, paving the way for future generations of maritime professionals.
