Peel Ports Joins the Ranks of The 5% Club, Underscoring Their Commitment to Talent Development

Peel Ports Group, one of the UK’s leading port operators, has publicly emphasised its steadfast dedication to nurturing talent and promoting skills advancement. This sentiment rings particularly true as the group registers impressive training numbers from the previous year, with an eye on future growth.

In the past year, the group invested in over 4,000 training courses, culminating in an impressive 47,000 hours committed to the professional development of their staff, reflecting a 10% increase from the year before. Among these, 31 team members commenced apprenticeships in sectors ranging from finance and IT to engineering and procurement. This progress is set to continue in 2023 and beyond.

As part of the 16th annual National Apprenticeship Week (6th – 12th February 2023), Peel Ports Group proudly demonstrated their commitment to fostering growth and skills development through apprenticeships. The initiative allows companies throughout the UK to highlight the significant positive impacts of apprenticeships on individuals, businesses, and communities.

This year’s theme, ‘Skills for Life,’ is particularly fitting for the group. Throughout the week, they plan to spotlight stories of success stemming from their apprenticeship talent, past and present, while unveiling plans for investment in apprenticeships and lifelong learning.

On the eve of this significant week, the group is excited to announce that it has become a member of The 5% Club. This organisation comprises a dedicated group of employer members aiming to boost the quantity, quality, and range of earn-and-learn opportunities throughout the UK.

Peel Ports’ membership in The 5% Club highlights their ambition to ensure that 5% of their workforce occupies earn-and-learn positions – which include apprenticeships, sponsored students, and graduates on formal training schemes – within five years of joining the club.

This move solidifies their commitment to nurturing talent and fostering future skills within their organisation and the local communities they serve. It aligns with the objectives agreed upon to deliver their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) programme and Enable The Future campaign.

Peel Ports Group‘s continued investment in talent development, coupled with their recent commitment to The 5% Club, undoubtedly sets a precedent for other maritime firms. This underscores the importance of ongoing training and skill development in the maritime sector, particularly in the era of rapid digitalisation and technological advancement.
